Evaluated from HVAC industry experience — not personally run day-to-day
Pros
- The AI photo-to-quote feature is a different approach to the missed-line-item problem than a template — instead of relying on the estimator to remember every line item, the tool generates a starting estimate from photos, shifting the inconsistency risk from 'did the estimator remember everything' to 'did the AI correctly identify everything.' That's a different failure mode worth testing, not an assumed-solved problem.
- Flat-rate per-company pricing (not per-seat) means adding more estimators doesn't multiply the cost — directly supports standardizing estimating across a whole team without a pricing penalty for doing so.
Cons
- AI-generated estimates still need a human check before going to the customer — if the original failure mode was 'nothing forced a second check,' a tool that auto-generates a first draft doesn't guarantee a second check happens afterward. Worth confirming during a trial whether the workflow actually prompts a review step.
- Haven't personally run this — the real test is how accurate the photo-to-quote AI actually is on real jobs, not how it's described.
A genuinely different approach to the same estimating-consistency problem Joist solves with templates — worth comparing side by side rather than assuming one is strictly better, since AI-photo-based estimating and template-based estimating fail in different ways.
